Search Engine Optimization: What & Why?

What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO is a set of rules that can be followed by website/blog owners to optimize their websites for search engines, thereby improving their search engine rankings. It may even be referred to as a process of improving the visibility of a website on organic search engine result pages, by including search engine friendly elements into the website.

Why SEO?

Not more than 5% of the world’s population would be clicking the Page 2 button on search results of Google. The reason is simple, we live in a world where people are left with minimal level of patience. They want their work done and they want it now. In fact, most of the web surfers only explore the first 4-5 links that appear in Google’s search results.

Search Engine Optimization helps your web page in becoming one of those lucky few pages that get the privilege of appearing among the first 4-5 search results on Google. This is what makes it important. In order to stay atop, you need to have the right kind of traffic and the right amount, something that SEO will ensure.

It also plays a very important role in framing good PR and media relations. The SEO Techniques are of two kinds: on-page optimization, and off-page optimization. These techniques will increase your website’s Search Engine Rankings.

One way of getting more traffic through SEO is by regularly updating high quality original content on your website. Another would be creating quality back links, social book marking, blogging, article submission, directory submissions, key word analysis, meta tags, description, etc. If your website or blog has a lot of quality content, it’ll automatically invite more search engine spider scans, thereby maximizing your website traffic.

For all the aforementioned reasons, implementing SEO techniques is of utmost importance for any website. What needs to be kept in mind is that the website with higher search engine rankings will draw more audience, which will boost your business leads, sales and profitability.
