HERE ARE SOME PR SERMONS

As a media professional, one is expected to have impeccable writing and English grammar skills. Honestly, in today’s world, where networking gets you to go places career-wise, it is extremely that one has efficacious communication skills. For PR Professionals and enthusiasts, it is extremely important that they try to weed out chances of any sort of miscommunication as it can hurt their clients’ image.

To make sure that no mistakes are made, and communicated to journalists who file stories, following things should be kept in mind.

1. Read inputs received from your clients very carefully- Make sure you don’t skip anything that has been communicated to you by your clients as inputs for a story they wish to see in the media. This can substantially destroy a great story, and can really plummet your reputation in the eyes of your client. Be a patient listener, and take notes down.

2. Use spell-checker- Very basic, but it is really not advisable to write your press releases or stories without spell-checker. Since we have felt the turbulence of SMS lingo through our teens, we must not forget that such a habit has considerably reduced our grip on memorizing spellings correctly.

3. Cross-check- After you are done with your story, make sure you run it by your client to ask for any changes and additional inputs.

4.  Dictate the essential points to the journalist- For details that you are skeptical of getting mixed up, make sure you recite it to the journalists you are approaching with the story. This will make things easier for the journalist to comprehend and file for publication. Be clear with the details.
