Decaying Among the By-lanes
In an Interview with AIR, Pt. Jasraj reminisced his
childhood days. Narrating incidences from pre independence days he exulted how
the patronage of aristocracy nurtured Classical Music and other forms of art. He
stressed on the fact that it is the lack of knowledge among the masses that has
resulted in decline of Classical Music.
When we try to gauge the classical
Music scenario in Delhi, Gurgaon and the other cities in the NCR we find that
they are still in a better position when compared to the other tier II or III
cities. But even this better position is not enough to rescue it from slowly
sinking in to oblivion unless something is done to popularise it is where a PR agency comes into picture.
The Pandits and Ustaads of some of the Musical Gharanas
have been able to maintain good Public Relations but not everyone has the
requisite skills to project himself. If one takes a detour of the by lanes of
Old Delhi, Old Lucknow and such other areas he will find the ones famous
Gharanas of music dying a slow death.
Most of the families have not been able
to get in sync with the present day musical scenario and are switching genres
which has benefitted only a few. PR Professionals can groom an artist in such a
manner that he is seen as a complete package which is considered a requisite in
the cut throat competition of 21st century.
