How Reliable is Your PR Team
There
is action and reaction. The world of PR
swears by the Newtonian code. Whatever you do will, must and
should reflect back. You don’t need a gang of lording talent bickering over who
is better, who’s got better ideas, who’s got THE connections. You need a team.
The A-Team. Having a superlative team comprising of the best often leads to
clashes in the long run. A team comprises of leaders, executors,
administrators, and foot soldiers. The brainchild of any PR team is a
reflection of their collective core strengths. A client’s only concern is
visible results. The team composition is leader’s responsibility. How you
achieve the dream team, however is a different ball game altogether. It’s not
rocket science, its evolutionary science. The first step to ensure a strong
mobile team is to maintain open channels of communication, overlapping
different spheres, and to encourage transfer or exchange of ideas. Every
assignment thus is a team building exercise, carefully monitored by the leader.
It is important to inculcate principles of patience, in the team just as in a
PR stratagem. You cannot achieve what you do not understand. Having an
indispensable group of fertile, active minds without being able to utilize
their potential is like buying a Ferrari for Village Roads by an untrained
driver. Utter and complete waste of talent and resources.
After zoning in on
each person’s potential value, they must be encouraged to volunteer in
assignments that is accepted by them, suited to their understanding. It has
been known to happen that if a particular member A is not fully devoted to a PR
exercise, he or she is most likely to be a burden in the entire process,
through no fault of theirs. In such a situation, it’s essential also to create
a position for the talent rather than have the talent tailor itself to adjust
to the ‘pre-defined job profile’. Selling oneself short is inhibitive to both
the firm and the individual. Clients must be kept updated on everyday progress.
It helps builds confidence and ensures dedication to the job at hand. This also
implies to the client that the entrusted team is serious, diligent and focused.
For this a comprehensive team effort is required which in case of unforeseen
circumstances would recruit ascertained members to minimize potential fallouts
or losses.
How
you work surpasses what you work on. The simplest of ideas can manifest itself
grandly through mutual understanding and cooperative
evaluation. In the world of commercial and corporate communication personal
agendas must be set aside to give room to the bigger picture. Needless to say,
PR professionals are among those breed of people who don’t adhere to timed
jobs. Their work timings catapults from 0 to 100 in a span of seconds. Another
value addition is their versatility, and the way they are nurtured to tackle
crisis individually. After a successful stint as a positive team player, comes
the time to expand individually. This does not entail neglecting the growth
period, rather a systematic approach to build wider strengths. Any team’s
reliability is measured by the trust placed by the members upon each other.
Discord within the house, usually spills over at odd times, inflicting
irreversible damage.
Hence,
a reliable PR team is a family, with pre-ordained roles. It’s not just an
organization, it’s an intelligent gathering of interdependent
independent individuals procuring the best for a client’s or a company’s
business. Keep working. Keep building.
